1. GARDENS AT VREDENHEIM





Many wine farms are open to the public where they are encouraged to taste wine and enjoy the culinary delights at top restaurants. Vredenheim is no exception and visitors will be left breathless by the beauty of the park and flower gardens located on this historic wine farm. Located on the Baden Powell Drive (R310) near to Stellenbosch.

2. GREENPOINT PARK



Right in the heart of Central Cape Town, it is located right next to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Greenpoint stadium. There is ample space to ride your bike, walk your dog or fly a kite, as well as plenty of planted and built features and points of interest.

3. KIRSTENBOSCH BOTANICAL GARDEN



There is an entry fee, but it is well worth it to see this beautiful and scientifically significant location. Home to thousands of indigenous plant species. It is immaculately kept year round and nestled by the South side of Table Mountain.

4. SEA POINT PROMENADE PARK



The sea-point-promenade park features high on atmosphere with its prime location on the Atlantic beaches with rock pools, tidal pools and public pools all available. Super children friendly with lots to do.

5. LITTLE GLEN



One of the earliest buildings in Stellenbosch, the gables are actually straight - could this be the predecessor to the modern Cape Dutch gable? This beautiful farm has a restaurant, picnic area and playground.

6. GRAND WEST CASINO





Not many people realise that Grand West Casino is a great place to enjoy a parklike atmosphere. The well trimmed topiary and splashes of colourful blooms provide a French Style Garden difficult to find anywhere else in the Cape.

7. ELGIN RIVER LODGE



Located a little further a field, the apple growing town of Elgin is less than two hours away from the centre of Cape Town. Here is the most beautiful park alongside the banks of the Elgin river. A restaurant provides guests with great pizza, pasta and more.

8.THE COMPANY GARDENS



This magnificent park lies in thhe heart of the Cape Town city. Many historical buildings are dotted around its perimetre including the Parliament buildings, Tuynhuis, and the South African National Art Gallery. The Delville wood memorial is a strong sculptural element near the centre of the gardens and is a tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in World War II.

9. ARDERNE GARDENS



This Moreton Bay Fig tree is one of the many large exotic trees to be found in these immaculately kept gardens of Claremont. The tree is native to Australia and was imported by Ralph Arderne, the Englishman who established the gardens in 1830, the same time that baroque style Cape Dutch buildings were in vogue.





10. SPIER WINE FARM

The white washed walls of the historical farm house peer through the verdant oak leaves.

With it's cluster of historical Cape Dutch buildings, art stalls, wine tasting center and eagle encounters, the vast farm has plenty for the while family to see and do. Of all the parks based in the Winelands, this must be one of the most easily accessible and well known, 15 minutes off the Baden Powel exit on the N2. Spier is a wine farm that has a restaurant, deli and wine tasting centre on a lake with jungle gym and numerous other attractions for the whole family.

The main lake at Spier which waters the gardens - providing an Oasis during the hot dry summer months in the Western Cape.

The lake at Spier is surrounded by artificial grassed hillocks as well as indigenous rushes and lillies. The paradasically effect is something that will raise your spirits on this unforgettable stop on your itinerary of Cape Town gardens.

The clivias are in bloom during the summer months.

The rose gardens at Spier have been replaced with plantings of clivias - an endangered species endemic to the Cape. Once a year during December and January they come into bloom, providing an extravagant splash of colour.

11. DE WAAL PARK

The fountain at De Waal Park.

Situated just higher than the Company Gardens, De Waal park gets its water from the same source - the Molteno dams that catch water at the foothill of Table Mountain. This is the favourite go to destination for dog lovers in all of Cape Town central. Well kept and centering around a working fountain, the vibe here is all positive and very family friendly.

12. LOURENSFORD WINE FARM

Lourensford is a very special place. The combination of modern architecture and landscape design, together with sculptures, a vibrant market and dotted with historical gems... the estate is full natural and man-made treasures.

13. WEBERSBURG WINE FARM



This expansive wine farm is open to the public where the huge park in the centre of the complex of Cape Dutch buildings can be observed.







THE OCTOGONAL GARDEN AT VERGELEGEN



The octoganal garden is like a secret garden that lies within the greater farm area, and is always full of blossoming roses and indigenous ground covers.




THE MAZE AT VERGELEGEN



There are two mazes at the farm, a short one that surrounds the herb plantings - shown here. And a tall one that is made up of actual grapevines. Children absolutely love it!




PARK AT KIRSTENBOSCH



Although it is officially a botanical garden, Kirstenbosch offers everything you would want from a public park. Spring or early summer is the best time to visit, when there are plenty of blossoms.
