STELLENBOSCH TOWN SIGHTSEEING ATTRACTIONS
Arguable the most beautiful town in South Africa, Stellenbosch is full of architecture sightseeing attractions in the Cape Dutch Style. The main street of the town "Dorp" street is lined with historic Cape Dutch houses, now accommodating restuarants, businesses and guest houses. Not only are the houses in the Cape Dutch style, but also the churches and museums. The town is also called "Eikestad" because of the many oak trees that line the streets.
The house was originally a farm homestead H-shape in plan. The front elevation features two front doors with a central window. This Cape Dutch masterpiece currently accommodates an art museum. Behind are various beautifully restored cellars with unique gables, currently housing a wine and cork museum.
The Lanzerac Manor House (1830) and Winery is currently a hotel owned by South African entrepreneur, Christo Wiese. The house plan of the Manor house consists of a double-T-shape, which is somewhat unusual. The gable is in the Neoclassical architecture style.
This Cape Dutch house was originally a pastors house to the Rhenish church across the central park. The house is delightful in its proportions and is perfectly situated behind an expansive garden with the Stellenbosch Mountains as a backdrop. Currently home to a toy and miniature Museum the house welcoming sightseeing attractions for tourists.
The house is of the H-type plan with a unique feature being the elaborate roof beam on columns. The outbuildings to the sides, frame a lovely garden fairly typical of the Cape Dutch approach. The house dates to 1814 and currently houses offices of architects and other professionals.
